The Importance of Talent Training Plans for Retaining and Developing High-Performance Teams

“There are only two ways to influence human behavior: you can manipulate it, or you can inspire it.” - Simon Sinek

This is a famous phrase said by Simon Sinek, the creator of the concept of the golden circle, who is probably familiar to many from his TED Talk on the concept of “WHY”/” WHY?” , who has more than 60 million views on YouTube or for his book Start with why, with more than 1 million copies sold. Founder of Optimism Company, a company focused on the development and training of leaders.

In a nutshell, this quote summarizes that we have two ways of influencing people, manipulating, which is obviously not that easy, or inspiring, in that sense it is teachable and possible to develop skills that inspire people to achieve great goals, either through behavioral techniques or speech techniques.

Since my goal here is to share ideas with leaders, companies and even those who seek leadership, what we mean is that if we want our team to achieve the defined objectives and goals with all possible commitment and with their best performance, we must inspire them, in this way we will achieve results that are likely to exceed our expectations.

By explaining WHY you do what you do, this gives your team ways to identify with your purpose, to believe and follow the same direction, but in a personal and autonomous way, taking responsibility for achieving that same purpose.

That's why it's important to create, although very simple, a training or career plan that helps your teams to understand over time the purpose of the company and how they can contribute to their collective and personal growth.

In addition, in today's times, information arrives very quickly, making people increasingly understand the importance and need to acquire knowledge to have greater value in the labor market.

This is why companies that today offer career plans or study benefits are increasingly attractive.

“The size of the global digital education market will grow from USD 19.4 billion in 2023 to USD 66.7 billion in 2028, at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 28% over the forecast period.” Research and Markets

Note: A 12% growth rate is already considered to be very good for a market

Post-pandemic

Another point that contributed so much to the acceleration of technology consumption and globalization is the post-pandemic period, which forced several markets to reinvent themselves to remote models and massive use of the Internet. Before the pandemic, it was most likely difficult to hear about the possibility of face-to-face model companies offering remote models, unlike today, where there has been a significant increase in companies that have adopted hybrid or 100% remote models. (The Future of Work After COVID-19 - McKinsey).

This helped people consider new benefits when choosing the company they want to work for, not just focusing on the financial side. If not in the advantages and the balance between social and work life. It is common to see how on opinion exchange platforms such as LinkedIn people write about their opinion of NOT returning to face-to-face work and of the benefits of remote work.

Why are talent training plans important?

As explained in the previous topics, it is possible to understand that there is a great need, on the part of teams and even new professionals, to be part of a larger objective, either because of the inherent need to understand WHY your company does what it does, or it is even understood that knowledge has a lot of value and that work is not just about financial gain.

For this reason, training plans have been as much in demand by employees already hired as by candidates for new vacancies. Because these plans are intended to give a direction, a purpose, to your employees acquiring new skills or improving others, the sense of satisfaction that they are safe and that they are contributing to their team.

“Today, Kranio, as an IT staffing company, has less than 8% turnover (in a market where turnover is usually very high) and this is possible because they mainly offer purpose and learning from their team. According to the EFY survey, more than 60% of Kranio's talents choose to remain with the company because it offers challenges and values the development of its employees.”

Whether this plan is designed by the company itself or even by team leaders, regardless of how simple the delivery is, a training plan needs to be built on only 3 pillars: Purpose, Analysis and Actions. But that will be a topic for another post.

The important thing is to meet this new demand and, certainly, to obtain even better results from employees who contribute to the daily improvement of your team and, in turn, of your company.
